A fashion-less life is sadly looming!

WARNING - this is a semi-sentimental post and lacks substantial amounts of pictures. Please read at your own discretion.

I know I've been countlessly making excuses when it comes to delays in updating Dunia Fashyon. Let me be straightforward this time - I put the blame of my almost one-month hiatus from writing on the energy-consuming job in the hospital. In fact, I was just getting used to the health care madness, the manic hierarchic system and the overwhelming flow of entirely alien information that's currently rummaging my tiny brain.

This is my first month as a houseman and look how it has taken it's toll on my life (i.e  life in general and of course, fashion-wise! ) . The only thing that I manage to do, coming back from work  is to change into sleepwear (and this sometimes I even miss, at times, being too exhausted I SLEEP in my work shirts and pants) and tuck into my bed straight away.

A boring cycle that is my present worklife -after getting up and  having a quick shower, there is little time left to THINK and to pick what clothes to wear any given day. I just grab any shirt that, luckily, my mother has generously ironed for me beforehand, and have a small bite for breakfast before starting the car to work.No time to think about fit, proportions, colours and such. I have all my ties pre tied for goodness sake! It's like dressing in the dark, only in my case I'm completely aware of what I'm putting on my body. The result is an appalling mismatch jumble of department-store altered pants, ties on dress shirts and  dusty unpolished vintage shoes. (the pictures of which I'm quite ashamed to show you guys, but when there's time I'll try to muster some courage to put on Dunia Fashyon anyway).

my very first day at work, yes we still use punch cards over this part of the world. I'm wearing literally seedy workwear- SEED shirt, Topman polyester tie, altered *Celio trousers, Benetton bag

Being tied between religion and self-indulgence

The fact that some items in my wardrobe are unwearable due to some religious reasons is always a dreadful thing that happens in DUNIA FASHYON. I have met with few memorable encounters, most of which comprise of silly and careless mistakes in the choice of the materials - please take note that as a male Muslim I can't wear specific fabric/materials/objects which are meant for the ladies (gold and silk, bracelets /bangles/ necklaces to name a few)... so I have a few 100% silk ties and bangles lying around in the house and in dire need of an owner who will appreciate them better...

And of course there's this heavy, gut-wrenching feeling of disappointment after purchasing beautiful shoes that you're lusting after for so long, only to find out later that they contain PIGSKIN. Needless to say a Muslim has to perform some religious routines after touching the above-said animal hide.

Ergo, here comes my shameless promotion for my two unworn treasures that I have to let go in order to perform my duty as a Muslim (at least by abiding its laws), and also to have a little bit of cash flowing in (a little strapped for dough in the moment as I just started working)... These shoes are guaranteed unworn, in perfect condition and come with original boxes, no less.

Dear readers, please feel free to click HERE to have a look of the items on sale, your time browsing is greatly appreciated :)

Fun at Avillion Part Trois

My final day at Avilion was concluded with this sailor stripes on the cardigan and some blue/grey/ white combo (works all the time for my random outfit woe, methinks). I also had a whimsical trend moment with the pants-underneath-shorts action going on - a trend that I'd like to see more in reality instead of in lookbooks/ runways, although sadly the thought of layering TWO bottoms makes me think sweat and uncomfortable crotch....

Photobucket
Another random 'old-clothing' fact is the shorts are my dad's (I'm pretty sure they're more than 10 years old). Albeit the looseness of the waist I still like to wear them, although I think it's time to take some of the excess fabric in...

Fun at Avillion Part Deux

I've fallen back ill at home and with the fear of contracting the ubiquitous Dengue fever these past few days, hence the process of blogging (and preparing to be recruited for work) seems a bit slow for me.  Heck I was not even online for the past few days... the throbbing headache basically deterred the will power that I thought I had in me all this while. Let's pray my parents and I recover soon and regain back our health...

On a brighter note, as promised here are the continuation of pictures from the previous post...

Photobucket

You know what's so funny about being hooked to bargain hunting? No matter where you look there's almost always an opportunity to grab something  that's not only cool but won't burn a hole in my thinning wallet either.

Photobucket

I found this Pajama pant at Giant for a measley RM6. That doesn't even reach the amount of 2 Euros I tells ya! It's actually meant for girls but what attract me to purchase this pant (besides the dirt cheap price) is the adorable basketball/football print. Plus the sizing is perfect for a person slightly challenged in the height department (me!) and being a sleeping garment the fabric is soo soft, I plan to wear it out more often!

Photobucket

And this wool Kyuso jacket (still a label that I Googled but to no avail) had a minor facelift after some sequin action that I put on the right pocket flap. Details? I'll be showing you guys next time, as I'm afraid I'm so pressed for time blogging for the time being!

Until next post dear readers! (which undoubtedly will be more sporadic, as I'm currently at the induction course and soon after that I'll be immediately working :)

Fun at Avillion Part Un

The celebration of Hari Raya  pleasantly but exhaustively ended with a family trip to Port Dickson last weekend. Yes, it does not boast to have the most beautiful snowy white sandy beach in Malaysia, but my elder sister was generous enough to book us one night at this cool resort Avillion (uh huh, somebody's got to work on Monday)... which is the same place where we stayed last year, with its beautiful above-the-ocean water chalets and convenient facilities and tranquil ambiance (eeek...sounds like I'm writing for a travels brochure or something...)
Photobucket
Naturally the idea of taking some  experimental  outfit shots (both to me stylistically and to my little sister who's learning to tinker with her new, shiny SLR bought using money, loaned from my mother of course) came to mind. Before leaving for PD I fumbled and panicked thinking what kind of clothes to bring there, and me being over-analytical and a bit OCD about outfits did not help much either!!! Did I mention I'm the ever slowpoke and last-minute kind of person who started packing for vacays after running  unnecessary errands that can be postponed the next week (for example going to the recycling centre to unload a heap of trash and a trip to Giant to browse for some cheap girl tights the very one hour before departure?)

Photobucket
But may I smugly declare that all the rush and frenzy was worthwhile...upon arriving I suddenly had this inexplicable energy to dress up (and layer, mind you) despite the humid heat from the coastal air. A little strategy to beat Mother Nature has to be conjured, of course by wearing basic tank tops beneath while layering a spring /summer cardigan from the flimsiest fabric ever... I guess the excitement for outfit posts for DUNIA FASHYON came from thinking that there would be no next time for me to be in such a beautiful place as soon the government will summon me to serve them eternally in a distastefully designed hospital building somewhere in rural Malaysia...And so much so that I even managed to whip out a triple outfit shot in three separate entries especially for you dear reader(s)... hope you enjoy as much I did posting them!

.

As you could probably already smell I'm caught in the act trying to reproduce a pathetic rendition of the extraordinary Lanvin SS09's straw hat (still one of my favorite collections so far) and YSL SS10 billowy cardie+trousers combo. Lucas and Stefano must be itching to gang up on me if they had any chance...

DUNIA FASHYON at Tongue In Chic

It's certainly a rare occasion that I post two entries on the same day (still trying hard to be one of those bloggers who manage to write 2-3 articles daily and be captivating and interesting at the same time). I usually wait for some time for the laziness inspiration to come by and try to blog every once in a while (and the fact that I'm currently at home should validate that statement all the while trying to live a 'normal' life).

The reason of this twice-a-day-post is due to a recent lovely comment from Melissa of My Style Diary, who has alerted me that DUNIA FASHYON has been featured on the Fashblog Focus section of Tongue In Chic. This Malaysian website is up and running a little more than a year ago, and it's one of the local fashion sites that I frequent when I first discovered 'fashion blogsphere'. A surprising fact that despite their usual post of woman's trends, style and cool ladies' blogs, and realising that this site is not exactly homme-centric I really feel honored to be featured here (although personally I'd like more flattering images of me up there instead of those of me wearing oversized dorky specs that I regretfully bought on eBay). Oh, and now I'm actually in Malaysia for good. But all in all this news is making me feel like walking on clouds right now.

And not forgetting the ever slightly attention hungry me can finally fill up my side bar with that bratty 'Featured In...' labels. MUAHAHAHA

'Tis the season of Barongs and the Devil Studs

Like almost every Malaysian Muslim I've been away at my grandparents' homes this holy and festive week to celebrate the Eid Mubarak. The house was sooo not empty and quiet with our aunties and uncles, cousins and their children running around like there's no tomorrow and peeling of flakes of paint off the wall! It was tons of fun teasing each other, taking pictures together, eating cookies and festive dishes until our tummies almost burst of overeating :) And without question I took the occasion as an opportunity to dress up in a traditional costume (one of the things that I rarely do), but with a twist.
PhotobucketPhotobucket

You may recall that I've posted an entry about Barong Tagalog some time ago and how I stated that I wanted it very much if it's available within my reach. A few days before Raya I did a quick last minute shopping at Wisma Yakin and Jalan TAR, and fortunately Lady Luck was on my side when I saw this white, almost sheer cotton shirt with tab collar which immediately reminds me of the Barong.
Photobucket
The icing on the cake was the floral embroidery  which makes the shirt stand out from the rest of the Barong-ish shirts at the store.. I was instantly sold and with a price of RM55 (reduced from RM65) I went home a happy camper with that shirt in tow and a smirk on my face... By the way in case you're somewhere around Wisma Yakin at Jalan Masjid India you can drop by Keris, where I got this Barong. They sell some reasonably priced traditional Baju Melayu, Songkok and other accessories as well.

Another very very last minute purchase (2 days before Raya if I remember correctly) is these studded flats from Topshop. It's amazing how quick this giant retailer can foresee a good design and immediately make a blatant copy of it  and rake an unimaginable amount of profits from such popular/trendy design alone. (I'm saying that because perhaps by this time almost everybody in the blogosphere are fully aware about the wonderful Christian Louboutin "Rollerball" studded shoes at Tommy Ton's blog Jak and Jil).
Photobucket
Of course you can blame me and even burn me on the stake if you want for I have jumped into the trend bandwagon as well (without warning may I say, as I was wandering around KLCC whilst waiting for a friend).
Photobucket
Although I notice some minor imperfections on the shoes, like most of other high street items suffer - some iffy misplacement of a stud, and even though they are very snug on my wide stubby ogre feet (err.. I feel like Cinderella's evil step sister trying to fit in to the glass sandals...), I pretty much lost my judgment thinking how versatile the shoes can be, with them being black and studded and shiny and everything (what I had in my mind is to add some moderate height heels beneath them). Like a sailor mesmerized by the sound of the siren I reached for some cash from my wallet and immediately paid for the shoes. Like Tommy says it seems like I have sold my soul to the ripoff devil indeed...
